Cristina Braga is considered as one of the most important harpists of Brazil, and has been to a large extent responsible for showing the world a harp with brazilian soul, spreading out the possibilities of her instrument in brazilian music. In her performances, Cristina plays and sings.
Working with both popular and classical music, she collects a total of 17 recorded works, four of them also released in Europe, USA, Japan and Taiwan. She performs as soloist with many Symphony Orchestras, and has won important prizes in Brazil. Cristina was for many years principal harpist with the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre Symphony Orchestra, where she played with maestros such as Mistislav Rostropovich, Karl Martin, Gabor Oetvos, José Maria Florêncio, Mário Tavares, Sílvio Barbato, and others. In 2009 she won the contest held by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, being appointed for the post of Professor of Harp of that University.
Cristina was for several years a member of the board of directors of the World Harp Congress, and created and directed for four editions, the Festival Vale do Café in the mountains of the beautiful historic region of the coffee plantations of Rio de Janeiro.
In 2014 she opened with Ricardo Medeiros a garden for concerts, culture, and events, called “Uaná Etê”, in the mountains of Rio and in 2015 she started a nature and art Festival FLOR Atlântica.
She studied with Acacia Brazil at the Music School of the Rio de Janeiro Federal University – where she graduated with the Gold Medal Award distinction prize , and with Susann MacDonald in USA.
